Building trust through clearer scam education
Redesigned McAfee’s Fraud Center to improve content hierarchy, helping customers distinguish legitimate communications from scams while guiding them toward the right next action.

Context
The Fraud Center had grown into a content-heavy page with weak visual hierarchy. Users had difficulty identifying legitimate communications and understanding how to respond when encountering potential scams.

Key Insight
The biggest usability issue wasn’t the amount of information—it was that users couldn’t immediately tell what was legitimate and what was fraudulent.
Design Principle
Create a clearer learning path
Instead of presenting information in a long scrolling page, content was reorganized into a logical sequence that guides users from understanding scams to taking action.
Improve visual recognition
Examples of legitimate and fraudulent communications were grouped into clear categories with stronger visual hierarchy, making comparison easier.
Reinforce actions throughout the experience
Key actions such as reporting scams and contacting Customer Service were repeated at appropriate moments so users always knew what to do next.
Before
Scam guidance was difficult to understand
Users were unsure what action to take
Weak visual hierarchy

After
Clear explanations with stronger hierarchy
Information organized into recognizable categories
Actionable guidance throughout the experience

Outcome
The redesigned Fraud Center transformed a content-heavy experience into a clearer educational resource. By improving content hierarchy, organizing real-world scam examples, and reinforcing key actions throughout the page, customers could more confidently recognize fraudulent communications and understand how to respond.
